FAQ
Are your dice balanced?
The short answer is: Yes.
The much longer answer is:
Only casino grade dice are truely and absolutely balanced. That said, great care goes into making the dice as balanced and fair as possible.
- This starts in the design phase where the numbers are distributed in a way that does not bias one section of the dice over another. This can be compared to how the numbers are distributed on a roulette wheel.
- During the printing and sanding of masters, great care goes into creating as symmetrical dice as possible. Calipers are often involved.
- During the casting, only materials of a similar density (weight) are used. In the case of inserts that might be able to impact the behavior, like liquid cores, they are always centered close to the center of gravity.
- After casting the dice are sanded again to ensure they are perfectly shaped.
In the end resin dice are handmade and will always be imperfect if you scrutinize them closely enough. That said, because of the care going into the making of the dice, handmade hard edged dice tend to be more fair than store bought round edged dice. Chessex dice for example are known to have quality issues that can create a subtle bias.
With all this said, the act of rolling dice exerts much greater forces on the dice to all but negate any imperfections. So are my dice perfect? No, but they are fair.
